The Jospong Group of Companies has donated $50,000 to the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) and the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology to support Ghana’s delegation to the 31st United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP31).

Speaking on the sidelines of the launch of Ghana’s preparations for the conference, the Group’s Chief Corporate Government Relations Officer, Sophia Kudjordji, said the sponsorship would help fund media coverage of the conference and ease the financial burden on the government.

Kudjordji explained that the support would enable more media personnel to attend the conference, helping ensure that Ghanaians better understand climate change and the discussions and negotiations at COP31.

She noted that although Africa contributes relatively little to global climate change, the continent continues to experience significant impacts, making public understanding of climate issues particularly important.

Kudjordji said journalists play a key role in explaining the technical discussions at COP in simpler language that communities and the general public can understand.

She added that better public understanding of climate negotiations would help individuals recognise their roles in contributing to climate change and the actions they could take to mitigate its effects.

The Group has supported participation in COP conferences for the past five to six years and had sponsored media personnel over the past three years to experience the negotiations firsthand. This year, the Group expanded its support by extending assistance to the EPA and the Ministry to enable more people to participate in the conference, thereby reducing the financial burden on the government.
