Rev Prof. Paul Frimpong‑Manso, President of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council, said the current controversy over the National Cathedral could ultimately reinforce the project’s foundations. He made the remarks on Joy News’ PM Express, noting that the debate had been reignited after the sector minister expressed no opposition to the cathedral during a vetting process.
Frimpong‑Manso compared the controversy to the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, arguing that scrutiny and opposition can test an idea’s validity. “If something is logical, it is fair, it is true, chastising it, opposing it, you know, fighting against it, all these things will bring the best out of it,” he said.
He likened the cathedral to gold or a diamond that gains value through refinement, stating that the project’s challenges could make it shine brighter. The GPCC President welcomed the renewed conversation, saying it offers stakeholders a chance to examine the project from different perspectives.
Frimpong‑Manso also praised the current government’s support for the cathedral and expressed confidence that continued dialogue would produce a stronger outcome. “I’m glad that the idea of the cathedral is not dead,” he added.
