NPP Accuses NDC Members of Illegal Mining

The National Communications Director of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, accused members and executives of the governing National Democratic Congress of actively participating in illegal mining, known locally as galamsey.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile programme on Saturday, October 31, Mr Aboagye insisted that the fight against illegal mining should not be portrayed as a national problem but rather a matter of identifying and holding specific individuals accountable.

“It is not the Ghanaian people that are doing galamsey. It is NDC people and their executives who are engaged in galamsey now. Let us call them out for who they are,” he said, framing the allegations as a direct challenge to the ruling party’s record on the issue.

The comments arrive amid escalating political exchanges over responsibility for the continued illegal mining activities and their environmental impact. Mr Aboagye has repeatedly argued that the current administration must be held accountable for its promises to address galamsey, rather than shifting blame to the previous government.

Further developments will depend on whether the NDC responds to these accusations and how the government plans to strengthen its anti‑galamsey enforcement.
