The Ashanti Regional Directorate of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) handed over start‑up kits to 43 district directors on Tuesday, marking the final step in a six‑month apprenticeship programme that trained more than 3,000 young people across the region’s 43 districts.
The kits contain industrial sewing machines, hairdressing equipment, fashion and artisanal tools, and are intended to enable beneficiaries to launch their own businesses using the skills they acquired during training.
Regional Director Seth Atanga told reporters that the items would be distributed only to those who successfully completed the training and validation process. He noted that some applicants who were initially shortlisted failed to finish the programme and would not receive the kits.
Atanga explained that applicants applied online, were shortlisted by district directorates, and then required to complete the training before being validated. “Those who completed the training and were validated will receive the items,” he said.
The initiative is part of YEA’s broader effort to equip young people with employable skills and curb unemployment. Several district directors pledged to distribute the kits fairly, without political bias, to ensure the intended beneficiaries benefit.
