President Mahama Announces Volta Region to Gain Big Share of 2027 Budget

At the 2026 Hogbetsotso Festival in Anloga on Saturday, November 7, President John Mahama announced that the Volta Region will receive a substantial portion of the 2027 national budget. He said the allocations will focus on agriculture, tourism, textile and garment and hospitality industries, aiming to boost economic activity and create opportunities for businesses and residents.

Mahama explained that the government’s new economy policy will invest more than nine billion dollars in key sectors between 2027 and 2030. “Volta Region is set to benefit greatly under the new economy policy in the areas of textile, garment, commercial agriculture and hospitality and tourism,” he said.

As part of the industrialisation agenda, the president disclosed that he has commissioned the Ghana Export‑Import Bank (EXIM Bank) to establish a garment factory at Weta in the Ketu North Municipality. The bank has acquired 200 acres of land for a Light Industrial Area dedicated to textile and garment production. The factory is expected to create around 3,000 jobs initially, growing to 10,000 when fully operational.

Mahama added that the Minister of Finance would present the 2027 budget next week on his behalf, outlining the plan for the new economy. The focus on the Volta Region is intended to position it as a major hub for tourism, agriculture and industrial development.
