Ghana Chamber of Mines Donates $400,000 to Burma Camp Redevelopment

The Ghana Chamber of Mines has pledged US$400,000 toward the ongoing redevelopment of Burma Camp, a key accommodation site for personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF). The donation was formally handed over by the Chamber’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr Ing Kenneth Ashigbey, during a courtesy visit to the Chief of the Defence Staff, Lieutenant General William Agyapong, on Friday, November 6.

Dr Ashigbey explained that the contribution was intended to strengthen the partnership between the Chamber and the Armed Forces, particularly in promoting the welfare of military personnel. He highlighted security as essential to national development and praised the Armed Forces for maintaining peace and stability. The CEO also requested that the accommodation block supported by the donation be named after the Ghana Chamber of Mines as a lasting symbol of the partnership.

Lieutenant General Agyapong expressed appreciation for the gesture, describing it as a significant contribution toward addressing accommodation challenges facing the Armed Forces. He noted that the redevelopment project would provide modern and comfortable housing for military personnel and their families, improving living conditions and morale. The Chief of Defence Staff urged other corporate institutions, stakeholders and well‑meaning Ghanaians to support the initiative, stressing that collective efforts were necessary to achieve the goal of providing decent accommodation for military personnel.
