Deputy Minister Refers Techiman Senior High Assault to GES for Urgent Investigation

Deputy Minister for Education Dr. Clement Abas Apaak has forwarded a disturbing video to the Ghana Education Service (GES) demanding an urgent investigation into an assault that took place at Techiman Senior High School (SHS). The footage shows two men—identified as teachers—attacking a final‑year student, even stepping on his head during the incident.

In a Facebook post, Dr. Apaak explained that the referral came at the request of Minister of Education Haruna Iddrisu. He instructed the Director‑General of GES to investigate the matter and impose appropriate sanctions on those found responsible.

“Misconduct will not be tolerated in our schools from any stakeholder, be it teaching and non‑teaching staff, students or parents,” the Deputy Minister said, emphasizing the Ministry’s commitment to safety for all school occupants. “We have a mandate to ensure that our schools remain safe for all—students, teaching and non‑teaching staff—at all times.”

The GES has been directed to act swiftly, with the Deputy Minister underscoring that the incident is a serious breach of conduct that must be addressed decisively. The investigation is expected to determine the extent of the assault and the disciplinary measures to be taken.
