The National Queen Mothers’ Platform‑Ghana has urged Minister Mahama Ayariga to step up his work on chieftaincy disputes that have plagued many traditional areas. The Platform said the prolonged conflicts have undermined peace, unity and development, and called for renewed attention under Mr Ayariga’s leadership.
In a congratulatory note to the minister on his appointment, the Platform highlighted his experience and understanding of the challenges facing traditional institutions. “One of the major concerns of Queen Mothers is the persistent chieftaincy disputes and conflicts in several traditional areas. These disputes have, in some instances, undermined peace, unity and development in our communities,” the Platform said.
The group expressed hope that the minister would use his position to pursue renewed efforts to address the longstanding disputes and promote peaceful coexistence within the various traditional areas. It also drew attention to the intimidation and undue pressure some Chiefs place on Queen Mothers, and their exclusion from decisions affecting their communities.
The Platform called for an environment in which Queen Mothers can perform their traditional and developmental roles without intimidation or unnecessary restrictions. It pledged its support and cooperation to Mr Ayariga and the Ministry in efforts to promote peace, unity and development while strengthening Ghana’s traditional institutions.
