Ghanaian dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has defended the decision by UK authorities to shut down ShattaFest UK, expressing relief that law enforcement intervened before a crowd surge at the venue could result in fatalities.
The musician was set to headline the combined Ghana Party in the Park and ShattaFest UK at Copthall Playing Fields in North London on Saturday, August 1, 2026. However, the event was abruptly canceled following a severe crowd crush near the entrance that left several attendees injured, with some transported away on stretchers.
Safety Over Financial Gain
Reflecting on the incident, Shatta Wale stated that he had previously warned organizers about potential law enforcement intervention due to visible flaws in crowd management.
Rather than criticizing the police for bringing the show to an abrupt end, the artiste expressed gratitude that authorities stepped in before unsafe conditions worsened.
"It was my part to move myself here and I came with my wife. It was your part to also get my team here," Shatta Wale remarked, pointing to organizational breakdowns regarding his crew's travel arrangements.
He emphasized that event promoters must prioritize patron safety over profit margins, insisting that human lives should never be compromised for financial gain.
