Rapperholic 2026 marked the second consecutive year the rap festival returned to Kumasi, with the headline act being Sarkodie. The event was staged at Baba Yara Sports Stadium from 7:30 p.m. on Friday night, continuing into Saturday’s encore.
While early social‑media posts showed apparently empty sections of the stadium between 7:49 p.m. and 9 p.m., the footage changed as the night progressed. Later videos revealed the covered stands substantially fuller, and by the time Sarkodie took the stage, the arena was reported to be filled to capacity. Independent attendance figures were not released, but media reports estimated more than 80,000 attendees, a figure that aligns with the stadium’s maximum capacity.
Rapperholic, named after Sarkodie’s 2012 album, began as a single concert on December 24, 2012, and has since evolved into one of Ghana’s most recognisable music‑event brands. The festival has expanded beyond Accra, moving into larger venues and serving as a platform for celebrating Ghanaian music across the country.
Organisers noted that a single snapshot of an empty section does not reflect the overall turnout. The gradual build‑up of crowds is common at events where the headline performer appears later in the programme, and traffic, travel plans, and social arrangements can delay arrivals. The organisers urged the public to assess the entire event rather than judge based on a single moment.
Beyond the logistics, the festival highlighted Sarkodie’s influence in the rap scene. The artist, whose real name is Michael Owusu Addo, is known by many nicknames—King Sark, Obidi, The Highest, among others—each reflecting his stature in Ghanaian music. Rapperholic itself has become an entertainment institution, offering a venue for fans to experience live rap performances and for local businesses to benefit from increased footfall.
Looking ahead, the success of Rapperholic 2026 suggests that Ghanaian rap continues to expand its reach, with cities beyond Accra now hosting large‑scale events. Organisers are already planning the 2027 edition, aiming to replicate the positive momentum seen in Kumasi.
