DStv Launches Cheaper Ghana Packages, Tailored for Sports Fans

MultiChoice Ghana announced on Monday, October 26, four new DStv subscription packages that will take effect on November 5, 2026. Prices will range from GH¢50 to GH¢570 a month, with a new sports‑focused bundle aimed at viewers who want to follow local and international football without paying the higher premium of the previous package.

Appiah Kusi Adomako, the West African Regional Director of CUTS International, welcomed the move, saying the price cuts and curated channel line‑ups were a positive step for consumers. Speaking on Citi Eyewitness News, Mr Adomako praised the Ghanaian government and MultiChoice for working toward more affordable options.

"I want to say that this package reduction is something that fits well with consumers. And with everyone that I’ve spoken to, the impression is that DSTV has done very well, not just in terms of the pricing, but also how the channels have been curated," he said.

He highlighted the sports bundle as an example, noting that fans who want to watch soccer no longer need to pay the higher price of earlier packages. The new structure could also boost subscriber numbers for MultiChoice, potentially offsetting revenue losses from lower fees.

Mr Adomako added that sustaining the lower prices would depend on efforts to curb illicit decoders and pirated devices, and that the Cedi’s performance against the US dollar could influence future pricing decisions. He said a marginal increase might be considered to maintain profitability.

MultiChoice Ghana’s announcement comes amid a broader push to make digital TV more accessible in Ghana, with the new packages offering a range of content tailored to different viewing interests.

Consumers can expect the new plans to launch on November 5, 2026, providing a more affordable entry point into DStv’s extensive channel lineup.
