President John Dramani Mahama is set to undertake a four-day official visit to Kingston, Jamaica, from August 2 to 5, 2026, as Ghana seeks to further strengthen its diplomatic and historic bonds with the Caribbean nation.

According to a statement released by the Presidency and signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President and Minister of Government Communications, the visit follows Ghana’s recent provision of emergency relief and humanitarian aid to Jamaica in the wake of a major natural disaster.

President Mahama’s trip underscores Ghana’s unwavering solidarity with its Caribbean partners, highlighting the enduring connection between Africa and its global Diaspora during times of crisis and recovery.

Advancing the Global Reparations Agenda

A central highlight of the state visit will be President Mahama’s participation in a high-level Reparations Dialogue hosted at the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona Campus. He will be joined by Sir Hilary Beckles, Vice-Chancellor of UWI and Chairman of the CARICOM Reparations Commission.

The dialogue forms a core pillar of the visit, aimed at accelerating international momentum for reparations addressing the transatlantic slave trade and its lingering socio-economic impacts. The engagement builds upon Ghana’s historic leadership within the African Union (AU) and CARICOM’s ongoing advocacy for restorative justice.
