The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has widened the pool of delegates eligible to vote for its National Youth Organiser and National Women’s Organiser, removing the need for separate special conferences for the two positions.
Under amendments to the party’s constitution, every delegate below the age of 40 will now vote in the Youth Organiser election, while every female delegate will vote in the Women’s Organiser election.
These changes mean the two posts will be contested as part of the party’s upcoming national elections, with a significantly expanded delegate base compared to previous arrangements. Chairperson of the NPP National Elections Committee, Frederick Opare Ansah, told the media that the new arrangements had been approved by the National Executive Committee and the National Council.
“In this election, all delegates under 40 years will vote, and that significantly increases the number of delegates going to vote for the Youth Organiser. Currently, the number sits over 2,000,” he said. “For the Women Organiser, every female delegate will vote, as opposed to the previous arrangements where we had the Women Organisers and their deputies. All these arrangements have been approved by NEC and Council,” he added.
Mr Opare Ansah explained that the expanded voting base makes it unnecessary for the party to organise separate special conferences for the two positions.
Meanwhile, Dennis Miracles Aboagye is expected to be declared the winner of the National Director of Communications position on October 3, having been the only candidate to file and secure approval to contest the position.
