Former President Barack Obama took to the campaign trail in Ohio and Michigan on Saturday, railing against the Trump administration’s handling of the Iran war and soaring consumer prices. He warned voters that the November 3 midterm elections would decide which party controls Congress for the remainder of President Trump’s term, and thus how easily the president could advance his agenda.

Speaking to crowds in Cleveland, Obama said, “After two years of chaos and cruelty and corruption and incompetence, the likes of which we have not seen in the modern era, you get a chance to say, ‘enough is enough.’” He mocked the president’s attempt to redecorate the White House and accused Trump of being solely responsible for the current state of the economy.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump held a rally in Georgia, touting his administration’s immigration and tariff policies. He declared America was in a “golden age,” praised the country’s strengthening economy, and pledged a $5,000 payout for every adult American if Republicans win both chambers. Trump also warned Democrats would “loot your wealth” and “annihilate your borders,” and used derogatory language to describe immigrants from Libya, Yemen, Haiti and Somalia.

Trump acknowledged that oil prices were “temporarily high” but insisted the nation was becoming stronger. He claimed tariffs were bringing in massive revenue and urged voters to support Republican control of Congress to secure economic gains.

Early voting has already begun, and Trump cast his ballot in Florida alongside First Lady Melania Trump. The outcome of the midterms will shape the political landscape for the rest of the Trump administration.
