Ghana’s mobile money transaction value climbed to GH¢518.8 billion in August 2026, according to the Bank of Ghana’s September 2026 Summary of Economic and Financial Data. The figure marks a 46.5 % increase from GH¢354.1 billion recorded a year earlier.
August’s total surpassed the GH¢509.4 billion posted in July, signalling sustained growth in the use of digital payment platforms.
The bank also reported 1.046 billion mobile money transactions in August, up from 969 million in July. The rise in volume coincides with a larger user base: Ghana now has 85.8 million registered mobile money accounts, of which 26.4 million are active.
Active agents—those that transacted at least once in the past 30 days—also grew to 594 000 in August, up from 550 000 in July, expanding the network that delivers mobile financial services to consumers.
The balance on the mobile money float stood at GH¢39.8 billion in August, a slight increase from GH¢39 billion the month before.
These figures underscore the expanding role of mobile money in Ghana’s economy, with digital channels increasingly facilitating payments and transfers for both individuals and businesses.
