AMA Announces GH¢1,000 Reward for Traders Who Follow Red‑Line Rules

Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has announced a GH¢1,000 Christmas support package for traders who consistently comply with its directive to operate within designated trading spaces in the Central Business District (CBD).

Speaking after the National Sanitation Exercise on Saturday, November 7, Accra Mayor Michael Kpakpo Allotey said the initiative is intended to reward traders who respect the Assembly’s red‑line restrictions, introduced last year to regulate trading activities and improve order in the city.

He explained that the Assembly had observed varying levels of compliance, with some traders respecting the designated boundaries while others continued to flout the directive.

Allotey said the AMA would conduct random inspections and monitor traders on several occasions before determining who qualifies for the package.

He stressed that traders must demonstrate consistent compliance, explaining that a single inspection would not be sufficient to qualify for the support.

The Mayor said the packages would be distributed during the Christmas season as part of efforts by the Assembly to give back to market women.

"We are putting our packages together. Some of them are worth GH¢1,000. When we randomly return to town and realise that you have consistently stayed within your designated space, we will monitor you on three or four occasions. If you are found complying with the directive, we will give you this package of GH¢1,000," he said.
