The Minority in Parliament has alleged that the driver of Minister for Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams and the secretary at the office of the Ministry’s Chief Director are still in the United States after attending the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Both aides were among 431 people the government sponsored to attend the tournament, prompting questions about the claim that all sponsored travellers have returned to Ghana.
Following a briefing by the Ministry, Ranking Member Vincent Ekow Assafuah of Parliament’s Youth and Sports Committee said the caucus specifically asked the Minister about his driver, identified as Mr Okyere. Mr Assafuah noted that Mr Adams denied knowing anyone named Mr Okyere, though he admitted he could know the individual.
The Minority also identified Christie, the secretary at the Chief Director’s office, as having travelled to the United States as part of the government‑sponsored group but not yet returned.
Assafuah called on the Minister to publish the names and passport numbers of all 431 sponsored travellers to verify their return status. He questioned the government’s claim that all 431 people had come back, citing the two aides named by the Minority.
“If the government says that all the 431 people that were sponsored by the government all returned back to Ghana, that cannot be the case,” he said.
