Laboma Beach in the La Dade‑Kotopon Municipality is now a scene of demolition as the Greater Accra Regional Security Council (REGSEC) enforces a 21‑day eviction ultimatum issued on August 7. The directive ordered residents and businesses within the lagoon’s buffer zone to vacate the area, citing siltation and unauthorized development as major concerns.
Among the structures targeted is the well‑known Pink Flamingo lounge, identified by authorities as occupying the protected zone of the Kpeshie Lagoon. The demolition is part of a broader campaign by the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council and other state agencies to reclaim waterways, clear unauthorized buildings and strengthen flood resilience across the region.
Greater Accra Regional Minister Linda Ocloo confirmed that the government would proceed with the removal of any structures whose occupants failed to comply with the eviction notice. She also noted that some developers had been warned to halt construction but continued anyway, raising questions about the legitimacy of their permits.
The exercise is expected to continue as authorities work to restore the lagoon’s buffer zone and mitigate flooding risks in the Greater Accra Region.
