In Accra, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s 2028 flagbearer, met with Dr Mark Speich, Secretary‑General of the Konrad‑Adenauer‑Stiftung (KAS), to outline a comprehensive strategy for strengthening the party’s policy development and leadership training programmes.
The discussion, held at the KAS Ghana office on Thursday, October 29, focused on Ghana’s political and economic future, the NPP’s internal reorganisation and ways to deepen cooperation with the German political foundation.
In a Facebook post following the meeting, Dr Bawumia said rebuilding the party remained a key priority, stressing the need to improve structures and make the NPP more responsive to the expectations of Ghanaians. He highlighted the Patriotic Institute and the NPP Policy Unit as critical components of the agenda, explaining that the initiatives would support leadership development, youth participation and the formulation of practical policies.
According to him, the party wants its policy proposals to be informed by evidence, assessed for financial feasibility and designed for effective implementation. Dr Bawumia said the broader objective was to develop an NPP driven by ideas, with stronger structures and a more inclusive approach to political engagement.
He also acknowledged KAS’s longstanding partnership with the party and expressed optimism about expanding the relationship in the coming months. The meeting is part of Dr Bawumia’s engagement with stakeholders as the NPP pursues its reorganisation and prepares for the 2028 general election.
Observers will watch how these plans translate into concrete reforms and whether they can galvanise the party’s base ahead of the next electoral cycle.
