The 1988 Year Group of St. Augustine’s College, known as APSU ’88, returned to its alma mater in Cape Coast for a homecoming themed “Once Classmates, Always Family.” The event aimed to honour the past, strengthen lifelong bonds and give back to the institution that shaped its members.

During the visit, former students revisited familiar grounds, shared memories and interacted warmly with current students and staff. A highlight was a health‑awareness session for teachers, presented by Dr John Allotey, a Clinical Pharmacist and APSU ’88 alumnus. He covered the fundamentals of prostate cancer, its risk factors, symptoms and the importance of early screening, especially for men over 40. The presentation drew on Ghanaian evidence to underline the growing public‑health importance of prostate cancer awareness.

Florence Hagan, an Oncology Nurse Specialist from Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, delivered a complementary talk on breast cancer prevention, early warning signs, self‑examination and the need for prompt medical care. Both sessions were praised by teachers as timely, practical and relevant to their personal wellbeing and to the health education they can pass on to students and families.

In addition to the educational talks, APSU ’88 presented a batch of bunk beds to St. Augustine’s College on behalf of the Year Group. Dr Bill Yeboah Kyeremeh, an IT specialist and alumnus, handed the donation to Assistant Headmistress, Administration Edith Swanzy‑Donkor, who expressed profound appreciation for the thoughtful gift and highlighted the values of service, unity and responsibility it represented.

Members of APSU ’88 also shared a memorable lunch with students, offering encouragement and sharing experiences from their time at the College. The gathering fostered mentorship and camaraderie, inspiring current students to uphold the school’s values and aspire to become responsible leaders.

The homecoming concluded with a final gathering where the Year Group crowned the celebration, reinforcing the spirit of togetherness that defined the programme. APSU ’88 announced that its next homecoming is scheduled for October 2028, signalling a continued commitment to support St. Augustine’s College and maintain strong alumni ties.

With a blend of health education, welfare support, student engagement and fellowship, the APSU ’88 homecoming stands as an inspiring example of how alumni year groups can remain valuable partners in the growth and development of their alma mater.
