The Dambai Circuit Court has remanded four individuals into police custody following disturbances at Dwabrem, Worawora, in the Oti Region. The arrests came amid tensions surrounding the commencement of rites for the Akwantutenten Festival.
The accused are Kwame Aboagye Ahenkroa, 55; Prince Asante, 27; Daniel Wiafe, 20; and Kwabena Nsimbo, 22. They are expected to reappear before the court on November 17, 2026.
The disturbances erupted on October 24, 2026, after disagreements reportedly linked to claims that a High Court injunction had been obtained to restrain the celebration of the festival. The incident involved the burning of vehicle tyres and other acts of violence, prompting police personnel to intervene, extinguish the fire and restore order.
In response, the Oti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) met with representatives of the disputing families on October 26 and directed all parties to seek redress through the appropriate courts and Houses of Chiefs. The Council also instructed that persons arrested in connection with the disturbances be dealt with in accordance with the law, stressing that the chieftaincy dispute must be resolved through lawful processes.
The Oti Regional Police Command has urged all parties to remain calm, exercise restraint and respect the legal process to prevent further disturbances and maintain peace in Worawora.
