University of Ghana political science lecturer Dr Joshua Ebuntie Zaato called on President John Dramani Mahama to pay closer attention to the handling of the “Ghana Jollof” case on Saturday, September 19, during an interview with Sammie Wiafe on Channel One TV’s The Big Issue.
Zaato questioned whether the President was even aware of the case, noting that senior nursing officer Salomey Awity Baffoe had been arrested and is currently on a two‑week remand by the Adenta Circuit Court 1 on a charge of abetment of crime, specifically the publication of false news. Baffoe, who pleaded not guilty, is expected to reappear in court on September 30.
The police say Baffoe allegedly assisted Barbara Asantewaa Kodua, the operator of the “Ghana Jollof” TikTok account believed to be based in the United Kingdom, in disseminating videos and recruiting others to redistribute the content. Forensic examination of Baffoe’s phone, audio and video files, as well as mobile money records, also uncovered alleged financial links between her and Kodua.
“If he doesn’t, I want to wake him up this morning and tell him, Mr President, there are men and women that are tarnishing your image,” Zaato said, urging Mahama to act before the situation further damages his presidency and legacy.
Mahama’s administration has yet to issue a formal response to the allegations. The case remains under active investigation, with the court scheduled to hear Baffoe’s next appearance on September 30.
