The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has made its 2025 gold trading reports publicly available on its website, offering a week‑by‑week breakdown of funds received from the Bank of Ghana, expected gold supplies, actual supplies and variances. Policy analyst Alfred Appiah praised the move, saying the level of disclosure sets a new standard for state entities.

Appiah’s review of the figures revealed a total variance of about GH¢3.8 billion, largely due to inflows recorded late in the year. He noted that the amount appears in GoldBod’s audited 2025 financial statements as a payable to the Bank of Ghana under the Domestic Gold Purchase Programme.

The reports show total inflows of roughly GH¢133.26 billion, expected gold supplies of GH¢132.29 billion and actual supplies valued at about GH¢128.55 billion, equivalent to 80,762.55 kg of gold. Variances were not uniform; for example, on 28 August the expected supply was GH¢1.06 billion, but the actual supply was GH¢2.72 billion, a variance of GH¢1.65 billion in favour of the supply.

Appiah highlighted that the availability of weekly trading information provides a useful benchmark for other public institutions, especially those managing significant resources. "If you’re a state entity that has existed for many years and can’t even publish an annual report, you really need to sit up!" he said.

GoldBod’s audited 2025 financial statements report total revenue of GH¢5.55 billion, an operational surplus of about GH¢909.71 million and an overall surplus of GH¢5.44 billion. The Board, established under the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140), is the statutory body responsible for the domestic purchase and trading of artisanal and small‑scale gold.

The Bank of Ghana explains that the Domestic Gold Purchase Programme was created to strengthen foreign exchange reserves, with GoldBod acting as the operational channel for acquiring artisanal and small‑scale gold under the programme.
