Ghana Meets Guangxi Officials to Boost Mining Investment

On Thursday, November 5, 2026, Ghana’s Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Sulemana Yusif, headed a high‑powered delegation to Nanning, China, to meet with Sui Guohua, Vice‑Chairperson of the People’s Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The meeting took place ahead of the China‑ASEAN (Guangxi) Mining Cooperation Conference.

The courtesy call centred on strengthening government‑to‑government relations and exploring practical collaboration in mineral exploration, technology transfer, investment and local value addition. Sui Guohua welcomed the Ghanaian delegation and highlighted Guangxi’s industrial and mineral processing capabilities, expressing interest in deepening cooperation, particularly in mineral development and industrial partnerships.

During the engagement, a welcoming banquet was held, providing an opportunity to foster friendship and strengthen ties between the two sides. Yusif presented Ghana as an attractive mining investment destination, citing the country’s rich mineral endowment—gold, bauxite, iron ore, graphite, lithium and manganese—as central to its economic transformation.

He noted that the mining sector contributed approximately 9.98 per cent to GDP in 2025, while gold production reached a record 5.94 million ounces, placing Ghana sixth among the world’s leading gold producers and retaining its position as Africa’s largest producer.

Looking ahead, Yusif called for stronger collaboration in local mineral processing, geological exploration, technology transfer, skills development, responsible small‑scale mining and environmental protection. He emphasised that Ghana’s ambition extends beyond increasing mineral production to retaining more value within the country through industrialisation, job creation and greater Ghanaian participation across the mining value chain.

The discussions highlighted opportunities for both sides to build on existing engagements and translate shared interests into practical investment and technical partnerships. Yusif reaffirmed Ghana’s readiness to work with international partners, stating the country was open for business and partnerships that would help unlock the full potential of its mineral resources.
