The New Patriotic Party's (NPP) just concluded regional executive elections have produced a notable outcome in the Ashanti Region, with associates of the Member of Parliament for Effiduase-Asokore, Dr Ayew Afriyie, securing eight of the 11 regional executive positions.
The result is being read in some party circles as a demonstration of Dr Ayew Afriyie's organisational strength and standing among delegates in the region, suggesting he has built a political network that extends well beyond his own constituency.
Dr Ayew Afriyie has for years played a role in the NPP's political activities across the Middle Belt and Northern Belt, contributing to the party's mobilisation and campaign efforts. His profile in the Ashanti Region rose further after he served as regional campaign manager for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia during the party's most recent flagbearer contest, a campaign that carried 45 of the region's 47 constituencies. His own constituency, Effiduase-Asokore, recorded one of the highest vote shares for Bawumia in that contest.
Party members tracking the latest regional executive results say the performance of candidates aligned with Dr Ayew Afriyie adds to his political standing within the NPP, reflecting delegate confidence and an ability to mobilise support across constituencies beyond his own.
Observers of the party's Ashanti Region politics say Dr Ayew Afriyie's role in party organisation, his involvement in national campaign activities and his expanding network among delegates have positioned him as one of the more influential figures shaping the region's political direction within the NPP heading into the party's national elections and the 2028 general election cycle.
