AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) has teamed up with the National Service Authority in the Ashanti Region to host a skills empowerment summit aimed at equipping national service personnel with practical skills that will ease their transition into the workforce.
The partnership seeks to prepare young Ghanaians for life after national service by providing them with relevant knowledge and skills to improve their employability and entrepreneurial prospects. The summit will cover key areas such as workplace readiness, interview skills, CV writing and entrepreneurship, while encouraging participants to explore self‑employment opportunities.
Daniel Arthur‑Bentum, Economic Development Superintendent at AngloGold Ashanti, told reporters that the programme was designed to address the uncertainty many young people face after completing their education and national service. “One problem you see across Ghana is that, more often than not, when young people complete school and their national service, the question is, ‘What next?’ A programme that would prepare them for the transition into the world of work is what we are about here,” he said.
Emmanuel Reagan, Director of the National Service Authority, said the collaboration would help address some of the challenges young people face after completing their national service, particularly in securing employment. He added that the initiative would equip beneficiaries with skills to establish their own businesses and become entrepreneurs. “Even if they complete their service and are unable to secure employment, they can use the skills acquired to establish their own businesses, become entrepreneurs and create employment opportunities for others,” he stated.
The summit is part of AGA’s broader commitment to corporate social responsibility and community development in the Ashanti Region, where the company has significant mining operations. By investing in human capital, the partnership aims to create a pipeline of skilled workers and potential business owners who can contribute to the region’s economic growth.
Participants will attend workshops, interactive sessions and networking events designed to build confidence and practical skills. The event is scheduled to run over two days in late September, with plans to expand to other regions in the coming years.
Stakeholders say the summit will provide a much‑needed bridge between education, national service and the labour market, helping to reduce youth unemployment and stimulate local entrepreneurship.
