On Saturday, September 12, the streets of Vakpo in the North Dayi District of the Volta Region erupted in colour and music as the town celebrated the 25th anniversary of the enstoolment of Paramount Chief Togbega Gbogbolulu V. The event, slated for July 24 next year, carried the theme “Bridging the Gap Between Chieftaincy and Intellectuals.”
Musical ensembles and cultural groups led the procession that carried the chief from the palace to the Vakpo Traditional Council court. The launch was marked by unlimited pomp and merriment, with drumming, dancing and elaborate displays of local culture.
During the ceremony, Togbega Gbogbolulu reaffirmed his commitment to educating the people on responsibility, sacrifice, respect for institutions and community development. “Many of the challenges we face are partly the result of our own actions and attitudes,” he said. “We must, therefore, be prepared to accept responsibility, reflect honestly on our shortcomings and be willing to change.”
The chief also called on Vakpo residents to avoid unnecessary divisions and conflicts, urging them to embrace unity, resilience, cooperation and a shared sense of purpose. “My message today is simple; everybody must be part of the development process; nobody should be left behind,” he added. He urged traditional authorities, government, academia, private sector investors, healthcare professionals, young people and community members to play active roles.
Volta Regional Chairman of the Peace Council, Rev Seth Mawutor, praised the chief’s exemplary leadership, describing him as a true pillar of peace and unity in Vakpo. Kpando Municipal Chief Executive Killian Donkor, a special guest, encouraged the people to consolidate peace and support the chief’s vision for Vakpo’s future. “The people of Vakpo are known for their strong sense of peace and unity and that is an asset for development,” he remarked.
As the celebration drew to a close, the community reflected on a quarter‑century of leadership that has blended tradition with modern aspirations. The event set the tone for the upcoming launch in July, promising continued dialogue between chieftaincy and intellectual circles.
