The Upper West Regional Minister, Charles Lwanga Puozuing, presented Awards of Honour to four police officers for their bravery and professionalism during operations that targeted an alleged armed robbery syndicate in the region.

The officers – General Sergeant Mortsi Kwashie Divine, Detective Sergeant Salifu Ishmael Aketisiwin, General Corporal Ernest Ameyaw Akunfi and General Corporal John Bekaar Vitus – were instrumental in intelligence‑led actions carried out on August 8 and 10, 2026.

DCOP Francis Yiribaare, the Upper West Regional Police Commander, said the operations significantly disrupted the syndicate, which had been linked to a series of violent armed robbery attacks in communities such as Nyoli, Kulmasa, Ga, Kpenateng, Kulkpara, Dapoha, Pissi, Gadi and Chogsia.

At a ceremony on August 12 at Police Headquarters, the Inspector‑General of Police and the Police Management Board promoted the four officers to their next ranks. Mr Puozuing then presented the Awards of Honour on behalf of the Upper West Regional Security Council (REGSEC).

“Their exceptional courage and commitment during the operations contributed to restoring public confidence and improving security in the affected communities,” said DCOP Yiribaare.

The Upper West Regional Police Command praised the minister and REGSEC for the recognition, describing it as a morale booster for the award recipients and the wider security community.

Command officials added that continued collaboration among security agencies and communities would be crucial to safeguarding lives and property and creating a secure environment for socio‑economic development in the Upper West Region.
