Bookworm announced the champions of its 2026 schools reading competition after a grand finale held in Accra on Saturday, October 24. Isabela Ayidah of Hertford International Christian School took the upper primary title with a score of 96.43 percent, while Godiva Koomson of Hallmark International School clinched the lower primary crown at 96.50 percent. In the junior high category, Tsevi Othnel of Charlotte Memorial School emerged victorious with 93.50 percent.

The event brought together 33 schools from across Greater Accra for a three‑stage contest that tested storytelling, passage summarising and comprehension questions. A special segment, “Knowing Your Parents,” aimed to strengthen student‑parent relationships.

Bookworm’s chief executive officer, Nelson Kofi Poku, said the initiative seeks to nurture children’s talents beyond the classroom. He urged parents and teachers to encourage pupils to join educational competitions, noting that such platforms expose students to further educational and personal development opportunities.

Winners receive a 50 percent scholarship for one year and, for the top performers, laptops. Selected top performers also gain sponsorship covering half the cost of trips to Dubai, offering international exposure.

Bookworm, operating for nearly a decade, has expanded to about ten regions across Ghana. The Greater Accra finale was the third regional competition that month, following events in the Eastern Region on October 10 and the Ashanti Region on October 16.

Mr Poku added that the programme remains open to pupils from both public and private schools, providing an inclusive platform for children to demonstrate their abilities and build confidence.
