In the Ashanti Region, a 49‑year‑old truck driver, Clement Ofori, was remanded into police custody after a fatal collision at Krofrom that claimed one life and left several injured.

Ofori was behind the wheel of a DAF trailer truck, registration GR 5404‑13, carrying a 40‑foot container of transit goods from Tema to Burkina Faso. The prosecution said the truck suffered a brake fault while descending towards Tafo‑Nhyiaeso, making it difficult for the driver to control the vehicle.

Unable to stop, the truck crashed into six vehicles, a tricycle and a motorbike on both lanes of the road, and also damaged roadside stores. The collision killed a 20‑year‑old pillion rider on the motorbike, identified as Atta Junior.

Several other people sustained varying injuries and were taken to Tafo Government Hospital and Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for treatment. The deceased’s body was deposited at Tafo Ebenezer Mortuary for preservation and post‑mortem examination.

Ofori was arrested by the Tafo‑Pakrono Divisional Motor Traffic and Transport Department of the Ghana Police Service and appeared before the Tafo Circuit Court on Friday, September 11, 2026. The court, presided over by His Honour Festus Fovi Nukunu, remanded him into police custody to reappear on September 25, 2026, as investigations continue.

ASP Paul Ayaaba Asore, commander of the Tafo‑Pakrono Divisional MTTD, said the police had engaged technical officers from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority to assist with the investigation. He added that the injured persons remained on admission and were responding to treatment.
