Republic Bank (Ghana) PLC was awarded the Climate Finance prize at the WSBI‑ESBG SDG Awards in Bangkok, Thailand, held alongside the 2026 IMF Annual Meeting. The honour recognised the bank’s investment in mechanised borehole projects at four Ghanaian schools – Adidome Senior High School and Taviefe Senior High School in the Volta Region, Pwalugu in the Upper East Region, and Dingoni in the Northern Region – under its Power to Make a Difference (PMAD) initiative.
The projects, powered by solar and electricity, deliver reliable clean water to students, staff and surrounding communities, supporting health, education and livelihoods while advancing Sustainable Development Goal 6, Clean Water and Sanitation.
Dr. Benjamin Dzoboku, Managing Director, received the award on the bank’s behalf. He said,
"For us, climate finance must translate into practical benefits for people: a student who can access clean water at school, a family with a dependable water source, and a community better equipped to face environmental challenges. This award affirms our belief that banking should help secure a more sustainable future. We are proud to receive it on behalf of our staff, customers, partners and the communities whose lives these projects touch."

The recognition highlights the link between water security and climate resilience, as shifting rainfall patterns and water scarcity pressure communities. Republic Bank’s work demonstrates how financial institutions can support local solutions that meet immediate needs while advancing broader sustainability goals.
Republic Bank’s sustainability strategy focuses on four SDGs – Good Health and Well‑Being, Quality Education, Clean Water and Sanitation, and Climate Action – through its PMAD umbrella. In September 2026, its parent company, Republic Financial Holdings Limited, announced a $750 million sustainable finance commitment by 2030 across the Caribbean and Ghana to support climate action, women‑led businesses and agriculture.
With the award, Republic Bank Ghana reaffirms its pledge to deepen sustainable development efforts, strengthening community resilience and creating opportunities for future generations.
