Asokore Mampong Flooding: Residents Demand Better Drains and Roads

Heavy rainfall on Monday evening flooded several roads and bridges in the Asokore Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region, leaving commuters stranded and forcing drivers to wait for waters to recede.

The Aboabo drainage area and a bridge at Asabi were among the worst hit, with rising floodwaters making it difficult for motorists, especially those in smaller vehicles, to cross.

Residents blamed silted drains, the continual dumping of refuse into drainage channels and the narrowness of some bridges for the severity of the flooding. They urged authorities to desilt drains, stop indiscriminate waste disposal and improve the affected bridges to reduce future risks.

While some truck drivers managed to navigate the flooded routes, many commuters were seen holding onto vehicles to cross the waterlogged streets, highlighting the urgent need for infrastructure upgrades.

Local officials have yet to release a formal response, but the community’s appeal underscores the pressing need for better drainage and road maintenance in the municipality.
