On Wednesday, September 23, former Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund chief executive officer Solomon Asamoah and former GIIF board chairman Prof Christopher Ameyaw‑Akumfi filed their witness statements in the Sky Train trial, according to a case update posted on X by Deputy Attorney General Justice Srem‑Sai. The filings meet the High Court’s final deadline for the accused to present their defence.
The move allows the trial to proceed after the prosecution closed its case and the High Court dismissed Mr Asamoah’s submission of no case. Mr Asamoah had earlier challenged the decision at the Supreme Court, seeking an injunction to halt the trial pending the outcome of his certiorari application. The Supreme Court, sitting as a single‑judge court, dismissed the injunction request on August 31, 2026, ruling that Mr Asamoah’s affidavit did not disclose a serious case to be tried and that the High Court had acted within jurisdiction.
Both accused face charges that US$2 million was paid toward the Sky Train project without GIIF Board approval. By filing their witness statements, they have formally presented their defence as the court proceedings continue.
