Ghanaian musician Sista Afia has shared that her biggest fear about motherhood is ending up as a “baby mama” without the love, commitment and stable family life she desires. The singer, whose real name is Francisca Duncan Williams Gawugah, said she looks forward to motherhood but will not have a child simply for the sake of becoming a mother.
She explained that seeing the number of single mothers in today’s generation has made her increasingly worried about finding herself in a similar situation. “Seeing how many single mothers there are in this generation honestly scares me. I’m not afraid of motherhood, but I’m afraid of becoming a single mother or just a ‘baby mama’ without the love, commitment, and family I always envisioned,” she wrote in a social media post.
Her ultimate goal, she added, is to build a home founded on love and commitment, rather than simply have a child. “I want to build a home, not just have a child. And honestly, that fear scares the hell out of me,” she said.

In September 2025, Sista Afia disclosed on The Delay that she had been out of a committed relationship for about eight years, largely because of her feelings for a particular man. “It is because the person I love does not love me. There is someone I love, but he does not love me,” she said during the interview.
