The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced that from 1 to 10 November 2026 prospective parliamentary candidates, including sitting Members of Parliament, must declare their intention to run in the party’s upcoming primaries for the 2028 general elections.
General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong revealed the timetable at a press conference on 29 October, describing the exercise as the first step toward the primaries. He said the party would assess aspirants against its constitution and Ghanaian law to determine eligibility.
Frimpong clarified that declaring intent does not grant candidates the right to campaign in constituencies, as nominations remain closed. Prospective candidates will register through the online portal PPC.nppghana.org and pay a GH¢2,000 fee.
The NPP positions the declaration‑of‑intent process as a new initiative in Ghana’s political landscape, aiming to lead in organising internal electoral procedures. A zoning exercise will run from 1 November to 4 December 2026, starting in the northern zone, as part of the primaries’ preparation.
Both sitting MPs and challengers are expected to undergo eligibility checks before the party moves to the formal nomination and vetting stages, which will ultimately select the party’s candidates for the 2028 elections.
