Alhaji Seidu Agongo, businessman and philanthropist, unveiled the first tranche of 10,000 free sewing machines under a nationwide initiative aimed at empowering vulnerable women and youth. The event, held on Wednesday, saw more than 800 units distributed in partnership with the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP).
Agongo told attendees that Ghana is rich in talent and that success is attainable for those who combine skill with determination. “You should not be shy about your talents, no. Once it is a genuine talent, pursue it and commit your energy, your heart and your time to them,” he said.

He added that breakthroughs are not miracles but the result of hard work, commitment and clear goals. “Breakthroughs are not miracles you only see in movies or read about in books. They are real, but they must be backed by hard work, commitment and a goal,” the entrepreneur emphasized.
Many young Ghanaians, he noted, possess the creativity to compete globally but often lack resources. The initiative seeks to bridge that gap by providing tools for tailoring and dressmaking businesses. Interested applicants can apply through a form posted on Agongo’s social media platforms.
Agongo, who founded the now‑collapsed Heritage Bank Limited, described the drive as a continuation of his long‑standing belief in sharing opportunities and fostering self‑reliance. “We all need kindness. Whatever your situation, I will say don’t despair. I want to help everyone as much as possible,” he said.

Beneficiaries welcomed the donation, citing the potential to start small businesses, earn sustainable incomes and reduce dependence on others. The distribution is slated to continue in phases until all 10,000 machines are handed over nationwide.
Looking ahead, Agongo hopes the beneficiaries will use the machines effectively, gain skills, and create opportunities for others. “At the end, we will be better and God and Ghana will be the winner,” he added.
