Hamza Suhuyini, a member of the NDC Communications Team, said on Breakfast Daily that no student should be denied access to Senior High School (SHS) simply because they failed English Language or Mathematics in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
He followed reports that roughly 55,000 candidates who sat for the 2026 BECE initially failed to secure placement through the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS).
Speaking on Channel One TV on Wednesday, September 9, Suhuyini pledged that the government would take steps to ensure those affected candidates are placed in schools and given the opportunity to continue their education.
He stressed that failure in either English Language or Mathematics should not automatically prevent a candidate from gaining access to SHS. “No student should be left behind, even if they have an aggregate 9 in English or maths,” he said. He added that in the UK, students who cannot go to sixth form can attend college to improve their maths or English before university, or even return to sixth form – a choice that should be available in Ghana.
Suhuyini said the Ministry of Education has put adequate measures in place to assist candidates through the self‑placement process. The Ghana Education Service and TVET offices will serve as regional centres where affected candidates can seek assistance with the placement process.
The intervention is intended to ensure that candidates who were initially left out of the CSSPS placement exercise are supported to secure places in SHSs or Senior High Technical Schools.
