On Saturday, September 19, 2026, Krachi East Municipal Chief Executive Safo Nketiah spoke at the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sanitation and Water Resources in Ho, Volta Region, lauding Zoomlion Ghana Limited for its corporate social responsibility work in the municipality. He highlighted the company’s free waste‑management services and its IRECOP facility at Yabram, which channels all municipal waste and produces inexpensive organic fertilisers for farmers.
Mr Nketiah said the partnership had eased pressure on the municipality’s limited resources and urged other corporate bodies to emulate Zoomlion’s example. He also criticised the 10 per cent sanitation allocation from the District Assemblies Common Fund as inadequate, calling for increased and timely government releases to enable effective sanitation programmes.
The comments came amid a broader parliamentary oversight exercise where district chief executives from the Volta and Oti Regions raised concerns over inadequate skip containers, low sweepers’ wages and the lack of permanent refuse disposal sites. North Tongu’s DCE, Victoria Amefadzi Doe Yawa, noted that the Volta River Authority had donated six skip containers, but more were needed to support effective waste collection.
In his remarks, Mr Nketiah underscored that without the IRECOP, the area would have struggled to find a landfill site. He added that the facility’s organic fertilisers were “very cheap” and beneficial to local agriculture.
He appealed to the committee to consider private sector interventions like Zoomlion’s when assessing sanitation needs and to bridge the financing gap in the sector.
As the committee reviews sanitation allocations for 2025 and 2026, Krachi East’s experience demonstrates how corporate partnerships can complement public funding to improve waste management and agricultural productivity.
