The Ghana Police Service announced on Tuesday that two suspects have been arrested in connection with the kidnapping and murder of Senegalese goalkeeper Cheikh Touré, who died in Kumasi in October 2025.
Salifu Walid, a 32‑year‑old Nigerien national, and Aziz Wadrago Mane, a 24‑year‑old Burkinabe, were apprehended on September 20, 2026, at a hideout in Banpanase near Mamponteng in the Ashanti Region. Police said the pair were part of a four‑member group that posed as football scouts and used online networks to lure victims into Ghana.
According to investigators, the group lured Touré into the country as part of an alleged fraud scheme before kidnapping and killing him. On October 16, 2025, men claiming to be Touré’s brothers took him to Manhyia Hospital with several abdominal injuries, claiming he had been involved in an accident. He was pronounced dead on arrival. The men later deposited his body at Ebenezer Mortuary in Tafo and fled.
The case had raised concerns in Senegal, where the Foreign Affairs Ministry said preliminary investigations indicated that Touré may have been a victim of a fraud and extortion network. Senegalese authorities subsequently asked Ghana to conduct a thorough investigation into his death.
Police said the two suspects admitted their involvement during interrogation and provided information on their alleged roles in luring Touré into Ghana. Two other suspects, Noukoubri Arzouma Sylviain, also known as Prince Pierre, and Barry, are wanted by the Police. Investigators believe the two played key roles in the group’s activities and are intensifying efforts to arrest them.
Walid and Mane remain in Police custody and will be processed for court.
Authorities are urging anyone with information on the remaining suspects to come forward as the investigation continues.
