Hamile Explosion: Air Force Airlifts Injured Immigration Officer to Accra

The Ghanaian government mobilised the Air Force to evacuate an injured immigration officer from Nandom Hospital to Accra for specialist care following a deadly explosion at Hamile on Tuesday, November 3. The blast occurred along an unauthorised route when a tricycle reportedly carrying suspected explosives detonated during a border patrol operation. Three people, including an immigration officer and two civilians, died, while another officer was wounded.

Interior Minister Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak announced the emergency evacuation in Parliament, stating that an Air Force medical team had been dispatched to airlift the officer. He said the team was on their way and expected to arrive in Accra within minutes.

The injured officer and the colleague who died were initially taken to Nandom Hospital after the explosion. The minister expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and the Ghana Immigration Service, noting that the identities of the affected officers had not been released out of consideration for their families. He highlighted the dangers faced by immigration personnel, especially along unauthorised crossing routes, and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to their welfare and safety.

Details about the suspected explosives and the circumstances of the blast remain undisclosed. The government is reportedly contacting relatives of the deceased and injured.
