A lecturer at Gbewaa College of Education in Pusiga, Upper East Region, has allegedly been beaten to death by military personnel operating in the area. Management of the college released a statement on Saturday, September 12, saying Mr Issaka Abdulai died after an alleged assault by military staff on the night of Friday, September 11.

The college did not disclose the motive behind the attack or the exact circumstances of Mr Abdulai’s death. It stated, “Management is saddened to announce the death of Mr. Issaka Abdulai, a lecturer in the Science Department. Mr Issaka Abdulai was beaten to death by the military in Bawku last night.”

Sources indicate that Mr Abdulai was allegedly apprehended while riding a motorbike during curfew hours. News of his death sparked protests in Pusiga on Saturday morning, with residents blocking roads and burning tyres to express their outrage over the incident and the conduct of military personnel in the community.

The incident has raised concerns among residents about the treatment of civilians during security operations in the area. Gbewaa College has expressed deep concern, but no details of an investigation into the alleged assault have emerged.
