The Ghana Tennis Federation (GTF) formally congratulated wheelchair tennis players and officials for their commitment and participation in the Ga Mantse Tennis Tournament, underscoring the sport’s expanding presence in Ghana.

The event hosted competitive men’s and women’s wheelchair divisions, giving athletes a platform to display their abilities, resilience and sportsmanship.

In the men’s division, Bernard Yawson took the title while Daniel Laryea finished as runner‑up. The women’s division saw Stacy Konadu Mensah crowned champion with Bridget Nartey as runner‑up.

The Federation lauded all four finalists and every participant for contributing to an exciting and competitive tournament, and thanked organisers Abusua for including wheelchair tennis in the event.

According to the GTF, initiatives like this are vital for para‑sport development, offering athletes valuable competition, greater public visibility and a chance to gauge progress.

Board representative Henry K. N. Larbi, National Coordinator of Ghana Wheelchair Tennis, praised the players’ dedication and stressed the need for sponsorship to enable participation in international tournaments and improve chances of qualifying for the LA2028 Paralympic Games.

Larbi highlighted that, despite talent and determination, limited financial resources remain a major obstacle to international competition. He noted that qualification for the Paralympics depends on international rankings built through recognised tournaments, yet travel, accommodation, entry fees and specialised wheelchairs continue to pose challenges.

With the LA2028 Paralympic Games approaching, the GTF is appealing to corporate organisations, government agencies, development partners and individuals to support Ghanaian wheelchair tennis players.

Beyond competition, the Federation believes wheelchair tennis promotes inclusion, builds confidence and changes public perceptions of persons with disabilities. Both the GTF and Ghana Wheelchair Tennis reaffirm their commitment to expanding the sport nationwide, identifying emerging talent and creating opportunities for athletes to compete at the highest level.
