Rockstar Games announced a 34‑track compilation that will be available on CD and vinyl on the same day the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 hits stores. The album features a “genre‑defying roster of the most exciting artists in the world,” including Travis Scott, Morgan Wallen, and UK singer PinkPantheress.

Fans have pointed out the irony of releasing a physical soundtrack while the game itself is set for a digital‑only launch. The first six tracks—Yung Lean, Fred Again, and Rolling Stone’s Keith Richards—were released alongside the announcement.

GTA games traditionally host multiple radio stations that players can switch between while driving. Earlier titles relied heavily on licensed music from established artists, though original songs have also appeared. Rockstar says the new game will feature a “dynamic score” and an “evolution of in‑game radio.”

Including a track in a GTA title can expose artists to a new audience. Spotify streams of Tom Petty’s “Love is a Long Road,” used in GTA 6’s first trailer, jumped 36,979 % after the clip was posted. Similar spikes followed for the Pointer Sisters’ “Hot Together” and other songs highlighted in the game’s trailers and Netflix “extended look.”

Music and gaming publication MusicEXP noted that Captain & Tennille’s 1980 hit “But I Think It’s a Dream” saw the biggest surge, leaping from 70 streams to 80,744 in a week. Cliff Richard’s “Devil Woman” exceeded one million streams, while Prefab Sprout’s “Cars and Girls” rose from 49 k to 187 k weekly streams.

Some artists have declined to license their music for GTA games. Martyn Ware of synth‑pop band Heaven 17 criticized Rockstar on social media for offering a “pitiful” deal for the 1983 hit “Temptation.”

GTA 6 is slated for release on 19 November and is expected to be one of the biggest entertainment launches ever. The previous entry, GTA 5, sold more than 200 million copies since 2013. Two official trailers for the new game have amassed almost 500 million views on YouTube, and the Netflix “extended look” topped streaming charts despite a series of leaks.

Rockstar is also defending itself in a Scottish employment tribunal over claims of illegal dismissal of former employees who attempted to form a union. The company denies the allegations, stating the workers were fired for gross misconduct.

Fans and industry observers will watch closely to see how the soundtrack’s physical release influences the broader debate over digital‑only gaming and the future of music licensing in video games.
