President John Dramani Mahama announced that the government will procure 100 new ambulances in 2027 to replace broken‑down vehicles and improve emergency healthcare services nationwide. The funding for the purchase will be included in the 2027 national budget, with the new units distributed to districts and constituencies whose existing ambulances are no longer serviceable.
Mahama made the disclosure on Saturday, September 12, during a citizens’ engagement session at the University of Business and Integrated Development Studies in the Upper West Region. He explained that several ambulances previously imported for distribution across the country had broken down, necessitating periodic replacement to maintain emergency transportation services.
"In next year’s budget, we are making provision for 100 new ambulances. A lot of the ambulances that were imported have broken down and from time to time, you need to replace them and so for districts and constituencies whose ambulances have broken down, we will replace them next year. We will bring in 100 and distribute them and then the following year, we can make provision for more," Mahama said.
The move is part of the administration’s broader effort to upgrade Ghana’s emergency response infrastructure and ensure timely medical transport for citizens across the country.
