Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku‑Agyemang addressed Absa Bank Ghana on Friday, September 25, as the institution opened its new head office in Accra. She urged the bank to broaden financing options for women‑owned businesses and young entrepreneurs, arguing that improved access would unlock new opportunities in the private sector.
“Expand access to finance for women‑owned businesses and young entrepreneurs and develop practical solutions for businesses in agriculture, manufacturing, and trade,” she said. The call also included a push for the bank to develop tailored financial products for key sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing and trade.
Ms. Opoku‑Agyemang further asked Absa to reinforce cybersecurity and information security as digital financial services grow. “Customers must have confidence that their money, personal information and transactions are secure as more financial services move online,” she noted. She praised the Bank of Ghana’s renewed focus on cyber‑security and urged Absa to invest in the systems, safeguards and people needed to protect customers and preserve confidence in the financial system.
She encouraged the bank to harness technology to widen financial inclusion while ensuring that customers who need personalised support are not left behind. The Vice President also called on Absa to uphold high standards of governance, integrity and responsible banking, and commended the board, group leadership, management and staff for their contributions to the bank’s operations and development.
