In a recent episode of the Afrobeats Documentary, David Adeleke—better known as Davido—shared the pivotal role that fellow artists Wizkid and Wande Coal played in his early career decisions. He said the two advised him that the only way to abandon formal schooling and focus on music was to achieve stardom first.
Davido recalled that his father would not have allowed him to drop out of school, but the success of his single “Dami Duro” changed that calculus. "I asked Wizkid and Wande Coal how they left school to do music. They told me the only way was to blow up. I knew my dad wouldn’t allow me, but when ‘Dami Duro’ blew up, I couldn’t continue," he explained.
After the hit, Davido returned to academia, negotiating with his father to resume studies in exchange for access to a recording studio and his father’s permission to pursue music full‑time. He completed a Bachelor of Arts in Music at Babcock University in 2015.
