On November 3, the Institute of Packaging, Ghana (IOPG) declared its intent to deepen collaboration with farmers, agro‑processors and other stakeholders in the agricultural value chain. The goal is to improve packaging solutions, reduce post‑harvest losses and enhance the competitiveness of locally produced goods.

The initiative is part of IOPG’s commitment to positioning packaging as a strategic tool for agricultural transformation and industrial development, coinciding with the Institute’s 23rd anniversary. The announcement was made in a statement issued on the same day.

As part of the anniversary celebrations, IOPG will host a Packaging Webinar on December 2, 2026, ahead of Ghana’s National Farmers’ Day. The event, titled “Packaging as a Strategic Asset: Building Brand Loyalty and Driving Agricultural Value Creation,” will bring together farmers, agro‑processors, packaging manufacturers, researchers, policymakers and other private‑sector players to explore collaboration opportunities.

According to the Institute, “the engagement will provide a platform for knowledge sharing and stakeholder discussions on agricultural value addition, post‑harvest loss reduction, brand development, market access, export competitiveness and sustainable packaging innovation.” IOPG added that packaging must go beyond simply containing and protecting products to become an important business tool for adding value, building strong brands and increasing profitability.

The Institute has called on government agencies, industry associations, educational institutions and private‑sector organisations to invest in appropriate and innovative packaging solutions to unlock the potential of Ghana’s agricultural resources. Since its inauguration in 2003, IOPG has offered professional training, research, advocacy, consultancy and business advisory services to industry players and small and medium‑sized enterprises, aiming to reduce post‑harvest losses, enhance food security, improve industrial productivity and expand domestic and international trade.

The December webinar is being organised in collaboration with Royal Crown Packaging Limited, the Chamber of Agribusiness Ghana, Qualiplast Ghana Limited and ePack Flexible Packaging.

Stakeholders are encouraged to register for the webinar to participate in discussions that could shape the future of Ghana’s packaging industry and its role in agricultural value creation.
