Only seven of the roughly twenty doctors posted to the Bono Region have reported for duty, a figure that underscores growing concerns over medical personnel availability and retention in the area.
Deputy Minister of Health Prof. Dr Grace Ayensu‑Danquah disclosed the numbers during a courtesy call on the Bono Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) as part of her working visit to the region.
The delegation, led by Dr Cardinal Newton, CEO of Sunyani Teaching Hospital, met with key stakeholders to assess challenges affecting healthcare delivery in the Bono Region.
On behalf of the Bono Regional Health Directorate, the Deputy Minister appealed to the RCC for mobilisation of funding, resources and other interventions to strengthen healthcare delivery and improve service quality for residents.
Ayensu‑Danquah identified inadequate accommodation as a major obstacle to deploying and retaining health professionals, calling for closer collaboration between health authorities and the RCC to address these issues.
Bono Regional Minister Joseph Addae Akwaboa pledged the council’s commitment to supporting the health sector, offering assistance within the RCC’s capacity to tackle delivery challenges.
The Minister thanked the Deputy Minister and her delegation for the visit and wished them a successful and productive engagement in the Bono Region.
