The Mortuaries and Funeral Facilities Agency (MoFFA) has issued a 14‑day ultimatum to the management of the Battor Catholic Hospital Mortuary Annex in Anyanam, Ada West District, to determine the whereabouts of the body of 53‑year‑old Georgina Tsiakie Agbasi, which reportedly vanished from the premises.
Dr Phillip Sarpong, MoFFA’s Deputy Registrar, said preliminary investigations revealed procedural gaps at the mortuary. He told the Ghana News Agency that the agency had already engaged the facility’s management and was working to establish what transpired with the remains.
Management assured MoFFA that the body would be located. However, family members, led by Reverend Ebenezer Ogbe, claim they were not directly contacted by the agency and only learned of the 14‑day deadline through journalists.
Rev Ogbe said the disappearance has caused severe emotional distress, especially for the deceased’s husband, who has reportedly struggled to eat or drink since the incident. He added that the family would only proceed with burial if the body is found in a condition suitable for interment.
MoFFA continues its search and urges the family to remain calm as efforts to locate the remains continue. The outcome will be closely watched by the community and the agency’s oversight bodies.
