Before his rise to stardom, Agya Koo kept his feet—and his reputation—shining. The actor said he started a shoemaking and shoe‑polishing business in Accra to earn a living without turning to illegal work.

He remembered polishing the shoes of several Members of Parliament at Sakumono Estates, including the late Hawa Yakubu, as well as members of his own family. “I was very neat and particular about my appearance, and that helped me attract the calibre of clients I had,” he told Graphic Showbiz.

Reflecting on his journey, Agya Koo said he has maintained cordial relationships with colleagues and forgives those who wrong him. He urged the industry to honour pioneers who laid the groundwork for Ghanaian cinema and to produce more family‑friendly films that can be enjoyed by all ages.

He believes such stories will restore the appeal of Ghanaian movies as shared family entertainment and inspire younger generations to pursue the craft with dedication and commitment.
